Vocational Rehabilitation Centre

Muhammad Qayyum from Bahawalnagar had a right leg disability by birth. After his father’s second marriage, he was responsible for his three younger siblings. He started to teach the Quran but only earned Rs.10,000 per month. However, he had an accident and had to give up teaching. Then he learned to stitch and shifted to Lahore where he got a job as a tailor. Despite his hard work, he was not able to earn enough. The Vocational Rehabilitation Centre enabled him to get an interest-free loan of Rs. 50,000 to open his tailoring shop. Now, he earns enough money to support his family and pay his loan installments.

Occupational Therapy

A five-year-old patient Abaan suffered from delays in language development and articulation errors of speech. A formal assessment was carried out with the help of the Action Picture Test and Bus Story Test. He was given therapy thrice a week for three months. His speech errors and language skills have improved by up to 80%. Currently, he is continuing follow-up monthly sessions.

Yasir, aged 40, suffered from bilateral knee pain for a year before he was referred to PSRD. He had taken multiple painkillers and other medications but to no avail. When he came to PSRD’s Physiotherapy Centre, he was unable to stand and walk independently. He was assessed and diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee. In a short duration of eight days, his pain was greatly alleviated by physiotherapy techniques and other treatment protocols such as hot packs, strengthening exercises, special techniques, and therapeutic ultrasound. Now, Yasir can stand and walk as well as perform his daily activities without support. He is extremely thankful to PSRD and considers his wellness no less than a miracle.

Muhammad came to the Speech Therapy department at the age of three and a half. He was diagnosed with Expressive Language Delay with Echolalia. Intensive speech-language therapy was recommended for him as he was unable to express his desires and needs through language. Two therapy sessions per week were designed. Vocabulary-enhancing techniques were used. Gradually, he was able to use his expressive language.
Now, he can speak fluently in sentences, can follow complex commands, and make requests and comments. Intensive Speech-Language therapy gave 85o/ accurate results according to the requirement.
